Last year I spent a month commuting back and forth from Peekskill to Brooklyn.
My former best friend Kevin had rented an adorable house on Lake Peekskill for a short time and I reaped the benefits of a pre-summer lake house.
This morning I was listening to Amos Lee's "supply and demand" which is the song we played every morning while making coffee, breakfast, straightening up from the night before, while we made our plans for the day...
Thinking about that brief time in Peekskill it was almost the perfect moment in time. Granted all outside elements were extremely messed up, Kev had career, women and personal issues happening, I had lost my job and was living on unemployment. But we had each other, we were really good friends, sobriety, the house, the lake, lots of good meals, trips to the Buddhist monastery, Fred was alive, evenings brought out heated board games, making music and deep conversations that would last hours. Fear of raccoons attacking was our primary evening worry.
As I listen to Amos Lee today with the sun shining it reminds me of that month in Peekskill, before everything changed, I'm grateful for that moment in time even the rough spots.
Yup, just like The Facts Of Life
